Buttresses provide support against lateral (sideways) forces. Scaffold Designer enables you to create a buttress by adding vertical bracing to the top level of adjacent Bays.

Beside the procedures for adding a buttress to a Scaffold, this page contains the following:

To add a buttress to a Scaffold:

1. Click the Scaffold tab.

2. Click the New Bay button and drag the new Bay onto the Drawing Page.

3. As necessary, click the View tab and click Bay Level Editor.

The Bay Level Editor appears.

4. Click the new Bay (to select it), then click the Add Level.

5. Click the Scaffold tab.

6. Click the New Bay button and drag a second Bay onto the Drawing Page and connect it to the first Bay.

The results look like this:

7. Click the new Bay to select it.

8. In the Bay Level Editor, click the Planked checkbox in the Level 1 row (to remove its check). This is optional.

(Scaffold Designer removes guardrails and toeboards automatically ).

9. In the Bay Level Editor, click More for the top level, then click the Sides tab.

10. Click the L and R Vertical Brace checkboxes to add vertical braces to the sides of the top level of the adjacent Bay

11. Click the View tab and click 3D View.

The 3D View dialog appears.

Tips and Tricks

If you want Scaffold Designer to display the top braces in the Conceptual tab of the 3D View dialog, extend the vertical standards on the side of the new Bay next to the Scaffold tower or run. This will not affect the material count in the BOM.

To extend the vertical standards on the side of the new Bay:

1. Click the new Bay to select it.

2. Click the Bay Details dropdown and click the Verticals tab.

3. Click in the appropriate Extend Top dropdown and and enter the distance you want to extend the vertical standards on the side of the new Bay.

4. Click OK.
